Should you act now or wait until after the holidays?

Today on “Jason Penrose TV,” I’ll discuss whether it’s a better idea to move in the fourth quarter of 2020 or to wait until after the holidays.

To answer this question, you need to consider different perspectives. Are you buying a home, selling a home, or both? Selling a home during the holidays can be stressful for many families, but you can always take your home off the market temporarily to accommodate your holiday plans. In that way, you don’t need to balance scheduled showings with your other seasonal engagements.

The advantage of having your home on the market during the holidays is that any buyers who are looking to purchase at that time tend to be motivated. There are also typically fewer homes available in the fourth quarter, meaning that buyers have fewer options to choose from, which in turn makes it easier for you to get your desired price.

“The best time to act seems to be right now.”

There are also advantages to buying during the holidays. Interest rates are super low, and there’s no guarantee that they won’t go up next year. As rates go up, your purchasing power decreases. Many people are scrambling now to lock in a low rate, which is a great idea.

So what are the advantages of waiting until next year? Well, obviously the holidays will be behind us, and sellers often wait until that time to relist their homes. That’s good news for buyers, who will have more to choose from, but for sellers, it means greater competition. Homeowners will have a more difficult time getting their desired price. Buyers who wait, however, may find that interest rates are higher.

All in all, the best time to act seems to be right now. The market is good, so why wait?
